Q: Can anyone else see my private messages?


A: No. The only ones that can see your private messages are you and the person you're talking to. There is no record of it, and it can never be seen by anyone. Your messages in the chat, however, are seen by those that are in the chat when you sent the message and a log is kept that can be later seen by the administrator. Private messages though absolutely cannot be seen by anyone but you and the person you're talking to. 
 

Q: How come the "Create a new user account" link doesn't work? 

                                                                                                                                      
A: When you click the "Create a new user account" link, a new window is opened where you'll enter your e-mail, user name and password. If you're browser is currently set to block up pop-ups, the window will not open and it will seem like nothing is happening. In most browsers, a bar will appear at the top of the page and if you click on the bar it will give you the option to "always allow pop-ups for this site". Click yes, reload the page and now when you click on the "Create a new user account" link it will open a new page that will allow you to create an account.
 

Q: How come when I click on a link in the chat nothing happens?

                                                                                                                                             
A: The problem can be one of two things. The most common thing is that you haven't enabled pop-ups to be displayed for this site. When you try to click on a link, a bar will appear at the top of the page and if you click on the bar it will give you the option to "always allow pop-ups for this site". Click yes, reload the page (you'll have to reenter the room), and from now on you'll be able to view links by clicking on them. If you've already unblocked pop-ups and are still unable to view links by clicking on them, chances are that you have an older version of Java and need to update it. You can download the latest version of Java at: http://www.java.com/getjava.
 

Q: How do I change my password?

                                                                                                                                             
A: Unfortunately, there is no real functionality in the chat software that allows you to do this. However, if you send an e-mail to admin@socialanxietysupport.com and make a request to have your password changed, then we can delete your account and have you recreate it with a different password.
 

Q: What does it mean if someone's user icon is red? blue? green?

                                                                                                                                             
A: A user whose icon is highlighted in red is a moderator and is the person who can help you out if you have any problems while in  the chat. Everyone else has a blue icon which is the standard for a normal chatter. A green user can only be designated by a moderator and has no different capabilities from a blue user.
 

Q: What should I do if I didn't receive a confirmation e-mail after signing up?

                                                                                                                                             
A: First, try checking your spam folder to see if the message got sent there. If it's not in your spam folder, wait a couple of minutes. If after waiting you still don't receive a confirmation e-mail, it probably means that the chat e-mail server is down. When this happens, the confirmation aspect of the registration is shut off and you can simply log in with the name and password that you just created without having to be confirmed.
 

Q: Why can't I copy and paste in the chat room?

                                                                                                                                             
A: If you copy something outside of the chat such as a link and want to paste it in to the chat, you have to use control-v in order to do so. The right click menu "paste" selection within the chat will only paste things that you copied within the chat using the right click menu "copy" selection. It's best to just avoid using the right click menu "copy" and "paste" selections within the chat and use control-c and control-v when you want to copy and paste. If you've tried this and it still doesn't work, then you need to upgrade your Java and that will fix it. Q: Why can't I see certain emoticons?


A: There is a glitch in the chat that happens on occasion to some people and there is no real way to prevent it. To fix it, you can try closing your entire browser window (not just the tab) and then reopening the chat in a new window. If some emoticons are still not appearing, then clearing all of your browsers temporary files should do the trick. In Internet Explorer you can do this by going to Tools->Delete Browsing History and then clicking the "Delete Files" button under the "Temporary Internet Files" header. In Firefox  you can do this by going to Tools->Clear Private Data, checking off "Cache", and then clicking "Clear Private Data". If you're still unable to see emoticons, then you may need to clear your Java cache. Follow the instructions at: http://ilign.com/node/240 to clear your Java cache.
 

Q: Why can't I type in the room sometimes when I enter the chat?

                                                                                                                                             
A: This is another chat glitch. If you send a private message to yourself it should fix the problem. If that doesn't work, then reloading the page and reentering the chat almost always works.
